How You Can Help - Make a Financial Gift
On any given night in Seattle and King County,
there are more than 8,000 people who are homeless. Twenty-seven percent
of those are under 18 years of age. In fact, 11% are five years and
under. When they became homeless, due to domestic violence, catastrophic
illness or other family crises, or job loss, they leave everything
behind. Nothing is left with which to establish a new household when the
time comes.
The good news is that each year, thousands of these people do find
permanent housing. The Sharehouse has been providing free furniture to
people moving from transitional to permanent housing since 1989.
The success of The Sharehouse relies
heavily on financial support from the community. Operating expenses include gas and maintenance for a truck, and rent for warehouse space
to hold the household items we
acquire.
