Delivery Service for Recipients

We are very proud and happy to announce that delivery service for our recipients began on January 29. We especially want to thank the Foster Foundation and King County for funding the start-up and first year of this effort. Two part time crew members joined us for this effort, and the cost of their wages is covered by these funders.

We have been making an average of 10 deliveries a week. It makes an enormous difference to our recipients and our member agencies to be able to offer this service.  It also helps us move stock out of our warehouse more quickly, leaving room for newly donated items. We know this will buy us some time before we are forced to find larger warehouse space.

Thanks again to all who made this effort possible.

Saturday Openings Start Again!

The Sharehouse will resume opening on the second and fourth Saturday of each month to receive donations beginning on Saturday, May 10, 2008.  We will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to receive donations at our warehouse.  This service was suspended last summer because we had no room - but our new delivery service has made it possible for us to begin again.  We look forward to seeing you on the second and fourth Saturdays!

Meet The Sharehouse

Janet Leet is the Sharehouse Office Manager and Volunteer Coordinator.  Janet has been with us for just a year, having worked for Family Services for a couple of years and serving on the Sharehouse Advisory Board before that.  Janet says what she likes best about working at The Sharehouse is "that I have the best job ever, because I get to see people when they're transitioning into happier times. I enjoy the diversity of people we see and the informal family like atmosphere. I have liked adding volunteer recruiting and management to what I do, and seeing how much more we can get done with volunteers! I am excited about our increasing ability to meet recipient and member agency needs, like our new delivery service."

Janet's friendly and professional voice on the telephone is a real asset to The Sharehouse.  We're very happy to have her.

Watch this space for profiles of other Sharehouse staff, Advisory Board members, volunteers and recipients.

Volunteer Opportunity

With warmer weather comes a more comfortable warehouse here at the Sharehouse. We currently have 5 volunteers who come in at various times to help us sort and display items.  We'd love to have 5 more!  If you're interested, please call Janet Leet at our office: 206.767.5280.

Advisory Board Openings

The Sharehouse has 3 remaining openings on its Advisory Board.  The Advisory Board meets monthly, and works to support and inform the mission and goals of The Sharehouse.  Time commitment averages about 10 hours per month.  We have a great time, and it's a terrific way to gain board experience.  Bring your energy, commitment and sense of humor and join us!  Call The Sharehouse Director, Michal, at 206.767.5280 for more information.

As part of our new understanding of our environmental impact, and in response to your requests, we're working to send this newsletter via email instead of using paper. Please send us your email address so that we don't lose you! Email it to [email protected] or call us at 206.767.5280. And watch for a terrific Enewsletter!

It's hard to ask for financial support during tough economic times. But it's exactly at times like these that recipients of services at The Sharehouse most need our help. Please give generously to ensure that families and individuals who have been homeless can continue to find household basics at The Sharehouse.

Yes!  I want to help The Sharehouse continue turning housing into homes.
