Who Qualifies for Free Furniture?
The Sharehouse donates furniture and house wares to individuals and
families in King County, Washington, who have been homeless within
the past six months and are clients of area 501(c)(3) non-profit,
city, county, or state social service agencies.
Furniture is given away by appointment only. People cannot make appointments
for themselves. Appointments must be made by the sponsoring social service
agency. Furniture recipients must be accompanied by their case worker
or social service professional.
Agencies that want to send clients must register to join The Sharehouse.
Each agency pays a sliding scale fee ($120 to $350 annually, depending
on the size of their agency budget).
To find out if your agency is a member of The Sharehouse, you can either
ask the caseworker or social worker currently handling your case, or
you can call our office at (206) 767-5280.
Unfortunately, The Sharehouse cannot give referrals to its member agencies.
The member agencies have asked us not to, due to the fact that they
are already experiencing heavy case loads and prefer to assist clients
who have been members of their program throughout their transition.
If your agency is not a member of The Sharehouse program, there may
be other services that can assist you with your needs. St. Vincent De
Paul often gives vouchers through their Family Assistance Line at (206)
767-6449, and through their New Connections office at (206) 625-1499.
St. Francis House is also a donation center that helps those in need.
St. Francis can be contacted at (206) 621-0945. Those in times of crisis
and those in need of further assistance may also try calling the 24-hour
Crisis Line at (206) 461-3222 or the Community Information Line between
8 a.m. and 6 p.m. at (206) 461-3200.
Agencies wishing to sign up and become registered members of The Sharehouse
can call (206) 767-5280 for more information or to request an application
packet.
